| Whitework - A Gentle
Path Workshops The
workshop aims to provide attendees the opportunity
to describe an experience of cancer, non-verbally
– where images and experiences are shared.
Whitework Workshops provide an opportunity for
communication that might not be currently accessible;
it provides a safe place to share thoughts visually
with each other, or with family members.
Methods
A twenty-minute documentary film on the making
of the work starts the workshop, followed by
visual presentation of sample Whitework.
A description of creative
art processes and techniques is followed by
practical work with traditional and contemporary
tools and techniques offered:
Assemblage, fabric bonding - glue gun and bondage,
collage, cross stitch, knitting, embroidery
techniques - hand and machine, beading, object
trove, heat treated texturing & layering.
The philosophy of the work
is described throughout the workshop, and participants
learn of the response to work to date. A discussion
involving workshop participants follows.
Outcomes
Workshop participants
make a small two-dimensional abstract artwork,
illustrating a beautiful response to an experience
of the cancer.
Ongoing Participation
The workshop closes with
the setting up of a structure to manage ongoing
participation, in Whitework - a Gentle Path.
