Artistic Description
These first four prints feature DNA (www.dnaftb.org).
In these artworks DNA
represents the centre of our humanity. It is also
the focus for the scientists we have come to know
through our residency at the Cancer Research UK funded
laboratory at UCL, London. This is a computer generated
‘space filling molecular model’ of DNA.
Our admiration and respect for the scientists and
students who are dedicating their lives creating new
drug therapies is shown with exuberant colour.
This print is divided into bands horizontally across
the picture. The first band is micro array testing.
The next two bands show two DNA models, the yellow
band overtakes burnt orange demanding attention. Within
the intense Mediterranean blue section there are other
diagonal decorative bands. This banding refers to
the banding techniques we have seen in genetic research
where DNA is examined and labelled with fluorescent
tags. This new (FISH - fluorescence in situ hybridization),
technology has enabled a far greater efficiency and
speed in the detection of research results. It is
also very beautiful.
