Artistic Description
These first four prints feature DNA (www.dnaftb.org).
In these artworks DNA represents the centre of our
humanity. It is also the focus for the scientists
we have come to know through our residency at the
Cancer Research UK funded laboratory at UCL, London.
This is a computer generated ‘space filling
molecular model’ of DNA. Our admiration and
respect for the scientists and students who are dedicating
their lives creating new drug therapies is shown with
exuberant colour.
In this artwork the DNA’s double helix is shown
in its usual vertical format. Crick and his partner
Watson made the first 3D model of DNA using pin pong
balls on an upright structure and now this is how
it is usually represented.
Next to the DNA on the right the artists have screenprinted
multiples of green and purple circles to portray the
innumerable test data of the scientists. The circles
lively fluorescent colours seem to generate their
energy as the colours “flicker”.
