Artistic Description
These first four prints feature DNA (www.dnaftb.org).
In these artworks DNA
represents the centre of our humanity. It is also
the focus for the scientists we have come to know
through our residency at the Cancer Research UK funded
laboratory at UCL, London. This is a computer generated
‘space filling molecular model’ of DNA.
Our admiration and respect for the scientists and
students who are dedicating their lives creating new
drug therapies is shown with exuberant colour.
In the laboratory human genes tests are shown on
photographic film called “gene expression micro
arrays” (www.dnalc.org).
The four rectangles at the top of this print show
the artists’ interpretation of these tests.
On close inspection, one can see fluorescent red,
and green elements held inside these plastic wallets.
We have recycled used X-ray test material from the
research laboratory using them here with hidden, surprising
things inside to suggest exciting discoveries in research.
